Biography

"A Poetic flair reminiscent of Shawn Colvin and the Indigo Girls. Seek this one out."
-- Billboard Magazine

Meghan Cary's music has drawn comparisons to Shawn Colvin, Stevie Nicks, Blind Faith and even Bruce Springsteen. An award-winning songwriter and a natural on stage, Cary was named Billboard Magazine's Critic's Choice for Best Newcomer when she hit the music scene. As one critic exclaims: "Cary is a star waiting to happen!" (Barry Fox -The Patriot News) A professional actress, Cary brings more than great music to the stage. She creates an intimate theatrical experience that takes her audience on an emotional ride. "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll beg for more!" (News and Observer)

Cary began writing and performing music after the unexpected death of her fiance, Matthew Black. She picked up Black's guitar, taught herself to play, and began writing her passion into music, ultimately recording her award-winning debut CD, "New Shoes". "I never meant to make a CD. I just had these songs I wanted to share with friends and family who knew Matti. But one thing led to another and I found myself at this beautiful studio with a great producer and a talented engineer and before I knew it my 'little recording' became a fully produced CD." That CD, "New Shoes", garnered rave reviews form Billboard Magazine among other publications nationwide, and a music career was born.

Cary followed up with the lushly produced, "Onion Dream". Combining her simple acoustic tunes with full band rock numbers, Cary's powerful sophomore CD has been described as "Smooth and refreshing as the finest whiskey money can buy" (Global Muse). Another reviewer raves: "Of the many independent releases that I've received for review, this is one of the very few that I expect to listen to many times for pleasure." (Jon Sobul - KozmicBlues.net)

On her latest release, "Live at Your House", Cary serves up the magic of her live show on CD, and literally leaves her audience howling. "Live at Your House" is unique in the fact that it was recorded live in a living room. "I perform house concerts all over the country, so when it came time to record my first live album I knew that to capture the intimacy, energy and comfort level I wanted from the room, it had to be a living room." This album captures it all.

Now the mother of two, Cary's life has been, once again, completely up-ended. "Motherhood is the most creative endeavor I've encountered to date. At first, I couldn't imagine music fitting into my life as a mom. But it became clear pretty early on that creativity begets creativity and music doesn't need to be fitted into my life. Music just is my life. It's actually the fabric that weaves it all together." Stay tuned for the next record (set for release late summer 2011) born out of the birth and life of a family.

Raised in Hershey, PA, Cary studied math and chemistry at Duke University, with plans of becoming a doctor. She made an about-face at school, ultimately earning her B.A. in theatre before going on to obtain her M.F.A. in acting at The Florida State University Asolo Conservatory. A membe of SAG, AFTRA and AEA, Cary has performed in more than 100 plays throughout the United States and Europe while simultaneously working in film, television and radio. Cary is a founding member of the NYC-based, Actor's Shakespeare Company. If you haven't caught her playing Helena in "Midsummer", you've probably seen or heard Cary on television selling you everything from diapers to long distance telephone service.
